Homemade Juice + Grace And Frankie

I’m back from an amazing and super relaxing trip to Florida and am super happy to be back in my normal routine. Vacation is always the best, obviously, but it’s also pretty comforting to know that you love your work life and usual schedule so much that you’re glad to return. I definitely watched a ton of TV while I was there (hi Netflix) and one of my binges was Grace and Frankie.

Did you catch this show when it premiered on Netflix last May? I absolutely adored the first season. It’s just such a hilarious yet heartwarming show, and the performances (not to mention the actors) are top-notch. How can you not love a show that stars Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston?

You just can’t not love it. It’s basically a requirement that you love it.

Season two was just as good, not that I ever had any doubt, although it was definitely pretty sad. My fave moment? When Grace (Jane Fonda) stole a Vitamix. I would totally do the same because I would love one of those amazing things.

On to the recipe. Like many people, I grew up enjoying a glass of orange juice every single morning. I kept drinking my O.J. even when everyone realized that, oh yeah, sugar is probably not the greatest thing in the world for you, especially not first thing. But I kept drinking it, stubbornly, because I couldn’t imagine not starting my day that way.

Then I realized, why not make my own juice? It’ll have zero sugar and will have a lot more nutrition, plus it’ll be just as easy to make as opening a carton. Sold.

I’m sharing three options for Homemade Juice: Orange, Grapefruit, and Apple.

The base for each juice is unsweetened almond milk, but you could use any milk of your choice. I like almond the best because I buy it in bulk from Costco so I usually have it in my fridge. For the orange, all you do is blend some almond milk with 1/2 an orange and some lemon juice. For the grapefruit, do the same but add chia seeds instead of lemon. For apple, peel and chop an apple (or half, depending on the size) and add some nutmeg.

Enjoy with the breakfast of your choice — but you probably could guess that I’m going to say these juices go pretty well with a bowl of oatmeal.

Start your day off without a million grams of sugar. My 3 kinds of Homemade Juice are the perfect, healthy replacement for your typical morning glass of O.J.
Recipe type: Breakfast
Serves: Each juice serves 1
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ orange
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ grapefruit
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • APPLE:
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 small apple or ½ bigger apple, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  1. Blend your ingredients together for your juice of choice. You might want to chop your citrus fruit up small to help your blender out.
  2. Enjoy.

  1. These look great, Aya. Scotia is a mango juice addict and I don’t even want to share how high the sugar count is in that! I could probably add mango to the orange juice recipe just so she has that mango hit, right:). Love your blog!

    1. Thanks so much for reading Cheryl, I really appreciate it! 🙂 A mango version sounds delicious!
