Strawberry Lime Grapefruit Smoothie

Strawberries and lime are a pretty classic combo. They’re healthy food BFFs. I remember drinking an amazing strawberry-lime soda/soda water when I was a kid. Of course, it probably had a ton of sugar, as most soft drinks and bottled drinks do, but when you’re little you don’t really think about that.

I adore starting my day with a smoothie. It’s a great way to start off on the right foot, as they say. It’s so funny to me that I never used to eat breakfast because now it’s my favourite meal of the day (are you a breakfast super fan too? Let me know what your favourites are!).


My Strawberry Lime Grapefruit smoothie is sweet and has only 4 ingredients. You can add more, of course. If you want to enjoy this smoothie for breakfast, you can add some protein powder and a healthy fat source like peanut or almond butter. I typically enjoy a smoothie with two pieces of gluten-free toast spread with sunflower seed butter or peanut butter. The choice is yours.

Grapefruits are such a happy fruit, and although citrus are typically thought of as a winter fruits, to me they signal the start of spring. They’re just so brightly coloured and happy. This smoothie is sweet and sour thanks to the mix of sweet strawberries, sour lime and sweet/sour grapefruit. You’ll get lots of Vitamin C from both types of fruit along with some fiber. It’s always good when something that tastes good is healthy, too!

Serves: 1 smoothie
  • 1 cup almond milk (or any non-dairy milk of your choice)
  • ½ cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 tbsp lime
  • ½ grapefruit
  1. Puree everything into a blender until smooth.
  2. Add anything you want: honey or maple syrup if you want it sweeter, protein powder and nut butter to turn this smoothie into a complete breakfast, or even chia seeds or hemp seeds.
