Today’s #throwbackthursday is devoted to one of my favourite movies from my childhood, Clueless.
Back in the 90s, there was one movie that really stood out amongst the rest. It was super colourful, cheerful, and hilarious. It was a love story, a friendship story, a coming-of-age story. And it was all about fashion.
I’m talking about Clueless. This is my love letter to this wonderful movie.
If you’ve seen it, and you probably have (if not, please fix that ASAP!), you know that Cher is an amazing character. She’s funny, witty, clever, and confident. She thinks boys are cute, sure, but she’s not about to get treated like crap. She cares about her dad, she tolerates her sort-of stepbrother, and she loves her BFF Dionne. She doesn’t let obstacles get in her way, and she makes her dreams happen.
Sure, she has some setbacks along the way. She learns that it’s really hard to drive in platforms. She learns that just because you have a crush on someone doesn’t mean they’re the right person for you. She learns that the right guy could be right in front of you. She learns to trust herself and that your gut usually makes decisions even before you do.
Cher is just such a fun person. She would make the best BFF ever. She may seem silly and shallow at first but once you get to know her, aka once you get halfway through the film, you realize that she’s so much smarter than she appears. So Cher teaches us a lot of lessons, number one being that you have to give yourself more credit, and that you should give other people more credit, too. You can’t judge a book by their cover.
Are you a Clueless fan (what a question)?
