#throwbackthursday: Ode To Gilmore Girls

Tomorrow is a very special day. It’s the day that the Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls is finally available… and I can’t even. I’m just so excited. I’m so grateful that we get to spend more time with this lovely mother/daughter duo and I’m definitely going to binge these episodes. No waiting for me.

So in honour of this super special occasion, I’m talking all things Gilmore Girls today. Here’s my ode to this glorious show.

Why do I love this show so much? Let me count them:

1.) Seeing a real mom/daughter relationship (and one that reminds me of my amazing/super cool mom).

2.) The fast talking and pop culture references. Do people in real life talk that fast? No. No one would understand us. But I don’t care. I love how fast Lorelai and Rory talk and wouldn’t change that for the world.

3.) The junk food. Is it really possible to eat that much junk food? Do I even want to know? Probably not. My fave junk food scene is when the girls have a movie night in season one. Lorelei invites Dean over, Rory freaks out, but they manage to eat a huge variety of junk food that shouldn’t go together but apparently works. Oh, the Gilmores.

4.) The coffee obsession. Was it cool to like coffee before or did Gilmore Girls make it cool? Not sure. This is a chicken/egg kind of question and it’s not one that can be easily solved. All I know is that I love coffee as much as Lorelai Gilmore. And I’m planning on drinking a lot while watching the new episodes #livingthedream

5.) The adorable townspeople and how quirky they are. Sometimes TV characters are just too… normal. They don’t have enough flaws and quirks and they don’t feel real. The Stars Hollow peeps always seem super real, and I love that about them.

6.) Learning how to wallow after a break-up thanks to Lorelai Gilmore. This is my all-time favorite scene… although ask me tomorrow what my fave scene is and it will have changed. That’s why this is such a great and interesting show. It’s just so packed with amazing moments. Thanks to Lorelai, I know now that after you get your heart broken, you are obligated to watch sad movies and eat junk food. You know, wallow.

7.) Stars Hollow and wanting to live there. Oh Stars Hollow. From Luke’s Diner to the gazebo to the millions of town festivals, this is a place that I (and tons of other fans, I’m sure) wish was real. I would love to live there.

8.) The humour and conflict and drama in every single episode. While this show is absolutely hilarious, it’s also absolutely serious sometimes. I love the humour and heart in every single episode and I love how much of a family story it is. From Lorelai dealing with having her parents back in her life to Rory coming to terms with her mom’s background and where she fits in, it’s always fascinating.

9.) One word: JessYup, I’m totally in love with Jess. No doubt about it. #swoon #stillswooning

10.) Knowing that no matter what, this show is a TV version of comfort food, and I can go back to Stars Hollow anytime I want.

Why do you love Gilmore Girls?

  1. I can’t wait to watch it!!!!!! But, alas, Scotia is at school, then I’m helping out at her school fundraiser and off to a work
Xmas party with Dan, so we will have to wait until tomorrow. Or, maybe not. I’ll be home by midnight. And Scotia is a night owl.
We can sleep in tomorrow:). Enjoy, Aya! Are you watching it with your mom? Say hi to her for me. Oh, and I like the Gilmores for all the reasons you mention. Including Jess (sorry, Dan:).

    1. Yes I watched it with my mom on Friday! I’m so glad you are Team Jess. Hope you and Scotia enjoyed your binge this weekend!
